MELCHISEDEK AND THE TITHE

"For he testifieth, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchisedek." Hebrews 7:17

"For this Melchisedec....to whom Abraham gave a tenth part of all." Hebrews 7:1-2

I have heard teachings on all sides of the question of tithing and I have seen all manner and practices regarding same. The question is always raised: "Is the Christian required to pay a tithe."

Various arguments are made. Some place Christians under a pre-Mosaic type of law. Others argue that Jesus tithed and established future tithing by his statements. Others argue that Christ is the end of the law and that we are not to be judged concerning things of the law.

I simply pass on to you what the Lord has said to me. This is fresh manna....I have heard it from no one but God. I am actually quite surprised because it is so simple and sublime, yet I have never heard this argument made in favor of the tithe. It goes like this:

Melchisedek was a priest! The first of the priests after the order of Melchisedek.
Abraham paid a tithe to Melchisedek.
Jesus is a priest forever after the order of Melchisedek.
Therefore, Jesus has the right, forever, to receive tithe from the sons of Abraham. Those who are led by the spirit of God are sons of Abraham according to the word.

IS THE BARLEY ABIB?

As I am writing this update, it is now April 5 in Jerusalem and we will know very shortly whether the Barley is Abib, or mature. If it is, the true Hebrew calendar starting point, reckoned according to the Barley harvest, will commence. If not, it will wait another month. It could be that the day of the Lord starts this week.

I have reviewed the work of Michael Rood and find it quite interesting. He is not a prophet and makes no claim to being one.

MOSAIC DELAY

Are you aware of the delaying effect that sin and resisting the will of God can have on the fulfillment of God's promises in your life. Just look at the Children of Israel and Moses!

Acts 7:25 records that "For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not."

What an innocuous but powerful little sentence. It says so much. Moses knew, at age 40, that he was called to deliver them according to this sentence. It says that he presupposed that they would have understood it and have known it too.

Since Israel came out of Egypt 430 years to the day and since Moses was 80 years old at their departure and spent 40 years in the desert, we know that this first opportunity for escape from Israel happened in the 390th year of their captivity. Abraham's promise could have been fulfilled on time, for God had told him that Israel would be aflicted in a land that was not their own for 400 years. (Genesis 15:13)

Yes, the scripture indicates that because the people lacked understanding of what Moses already knew, they were 30 years late in coming out of Egypt. And think of the converse as well. Moses knew of his calling and anointing at age 40 but was not able to walk in it for 40 more years.

This speaks to those of you to whom God has spoken a promise about a ministry or a calling. Sin, unbelief and lack of understanding by you or by those to whom you are sent can delay it. Just because it is slow coming, it may yet have a fulfillment. Wait for that burning bush.
