Some Thoughts For Today

A report reached me today from our missionary to Colombia that the pastor and his family of the church that had been hosting our missionary were killed by the cartel. Yesterday, it was a report of a church bombing, with dozens of Christians killed, filling the news. These reports are becoming weekly, if not daily events.

Some thirty years ago, the killing of Jim Elliott and 4 other missionaries to the Indians of the Amazon jungle came as a shocking report. Things like this just did not happen frequently. Today, the frequency and the severity is increasing. Our ability to be shocked is decreasing.

Recent prophecy has brought revelation concerning waves of God's spirit. We now know just what kind of waves they are: Tidal Waves. A tidal wave can move at speeds of several hundred miles per hour accross the surface of the ocean. The wave is not high until it reaches the shoreline, where it can pile up to a height of even a thousand feet. I'll call them Isaiah 60 waves: They come with God's glory, and with deep darkness close in tow.

Now that we have seen the impact of one wave, and can see what is happening, how should we feel about Bill Burn's prophecy that another wave is coming in the spring?

Isn't it interesting, in light of the rise in martyrdom...and in contention....and in the recognizable loss of prophetic vision, that the Cave of John The Baptist would be found on the East bank of the Jordan River. The last of the martyrd OT prophets: his skull possibly found in that cave! Yes, interesting how signs in the natural many times portend of activities in the invisible realm.

As I write, President Clinton has presented a last ditch peace proposal to the Israeli's and the Palestinians. Israel is asked to give up sovereignty to the temple mount. Jews are asked to give up their right of return. There is no celebration in Bethlehem this Christmas. Yes, as Bob Dylan said, the times, they are a changin.

One thing I wanted to be sure to do tonite was to lift up the name of Jesus. He is the word, who became flesh, and dwelt among us. The word was with God and the word was God. Yes, Jesus is the Lord God, something that unites the members of all cults. They always unite in their agreement to fight viciously against the claims to deity made by and for Christ.

In Mormonism, great emphasis is placed, by the speakers in their meetings, to affirm that Joseph Smith is a prophet of the Lord. Very little mention is made of Jesus of Nazareth. The communion element in a Mormon service is water: clear, symbolizing the bloodlessness of the cult.

I found it interesting tonite that I read the writings of someone, who was writing seriously, and he was explaining and applauding the Zeal of Adventists who seek to promote the 4th commandment as a way to salvation. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Jesus is the only way to salvation. No commandment could ever be a "way to salvation" The Spirit of God just quickened this scripture to me from John 5:39 (Jewish New Testament)

"You keep examining the Tanakh because you think that in it you have eternal life. Those very scriptures bear witness to me, but you won't come to me in order to have life."

I am also reminded tonite of just how I felt when I read the inscription on the tomb of George Washington at Mount Vernon, Virginia. Is is from John 11:25

"I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, thouh he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."

Where The Battle's Lost and Won

A few excerpts: "The battle is lost or won in the secret places of the will before God, never first in the external world." "Nothing has any power over the man who has fought out the battle before God and won there." "In dealing with other people, the line to take is to push them to an issue of will. That is the way abandonment begins. Every now and again, not often, but sometimes, God brings us to a point of climax. That is the Great Divide in the life; from that point, we either go towards a more and more dilatory and useless type of Christian life, or we become more and more ablaze for the glory of God."

My 5 year old pulled this dusty prayer book from the shelf today and handed it to me. I read it and the Spirit of the Lord wants me to pray it with you now.

"God of might and mercy, with all Thy children I come before Thee in this evening hour, exalting Thee as my Father and Preserver, my Rock, my Fortress, and my Deliverer. Consider not my many sins and shortcomings, but graciously forgive them for the sake of my beloved redeemer Jesus Christ. Let Thy Holy Spirit dwell in my heart that I may withstand and overcome all temptations of unbelief and worldliness. Let Him put pure and wholesome thoughts and desires into my heart. In the manifold dangers which beset us grant Thy strong protection to all who trust in Thee. Hear the cries of Thy children wherever they may be. Relieve the distress of those who are ill and hungry; check the ravages of wars, and let peace prevail on earth, that Thy Holy Gospel may be preached in every nation and many should be saved. This I ask in the name of Thy Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen."
