Two days ago, in the evening, the word the Lord spoke to me on Saturday night, 12/23, was "come expecting".

Now, the Lord did not give me any hint what I was to expect as I went to Sunday services on the 24th, but I was expecting some blessing, some touch from God, some insight, some light.

I came expecting, and found myself getting angry, because my children were not allowed to participate in the Sunday Christmas program. It seems that the lady in charge, in her striving for excellence, was requiring that only those who had attended the last practice could participate. So there I was, with four very hurting kids on my hands, watching a Christmas program and feeling the anger build inside of me. I had been expecting light, but what I got was darkness.

Now, I've grown to the place where I'm kind of hard to hurt or anger. Especially when someone takes a direct shot at me. It may happen, but I've grown in Christ in this area. But let someone hurt my kids? Oh my, I need the blood of Jesus, covering me and my heart.

I was so upset that I confronted the woman prior to communion, because I realized that I was in no shape to participate in the Lord's supper at that time. That really did not help, because the dear lady could not see where she had done anything wrong and simply defended herself. She did say she was sorry that my children's feelings were hurt.

That whole episode ended, and then my pastor approached me and told me that the Lord was telling him that I had to speak to the congregation. Another unexpected turn. I was in no mood to speak, but I knew it was the Lord.

The only thing that came into my mind was the words "He Took My Nails", which I wrote about yesterday. It comprised what I said to our congregation yesterday. Most of what I said I included in my article for yesterday.

Today, I'm meditating on expecting the unexpected. As I am meditating, and talking with the Lord, he spoke the scripture from Amos 5:18-20 to me.

"Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! To what end is it for you? The day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?"

In short, Amos was saying that the day of the LORD will be filled with the unexpected. Many surprises for many people. The big surprise that Amos tells about is that there are people who are looking forward to the day of the Lord, thinking it will be a day of light. But Amos says, no, it will be darkness, deep darkness.

I recall the words of Mickey Evans, founder of Dunklin Memorial Camp, as he spoke to me last Thursday. He said he had been watching a TV preacher, who had been mocking the doomsaying prophets, saying that we were going to have more and more prosperity and blessing and revival until the coming of Jesus. Yes, Mickey said that it was mocking spirit, even speaking through that man.

For me, the unexpected took the form of an attack...a surprise attack, that hurt my children. I saw the hand of the enemy in it, but the attack came through my sister in Christ. I knew I had to forgive her, even if she could see that she did nothing wrong. But brothers and sisters, it was hard and it took me awhile. It was so strategically timed that I missed the Lord's supper. I don't think that I have ever missed it before, since I came into the Church. Yes, expect the unexpected.

Bob Neumann contacted me today regarding the word I posted a few days back about the "Deep Darkness". Bob, in speaking of the ocean trenches, said that the cold and pressure there is unimaginable, but that God has chosen not to vomit either the cold or the hot out of his mouth. Yes, the darkness will bring pressure with it. We are going to have to endure it, for it is going to cover the whole earth.

This latest wave of the Holy Spirit I take as the first example of the arrival of light, released in the midst of darkness. Prophetic light has come forth, but yet I see darkness all around me, and the darknening of vision of many seers. I have seen the unexpected come: attack when I expected blessing. We are in a time, says the Lord, when the believer must be ready for anything. Do not be shaken by what will come upon you and what will happen around you, but trust in me, says the Lord. And look to me and fear not, for I am with you, says the Lord.
