Dear WPA and Others:

I was worshipping the Lord this Friday night and the Lord spoke this familiar scripture to me, so I sat down, and looked into it once again. It is Isaiah 21:11

"An oracle concerning Dumah. Someone calls to me from Seir, Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, what is left of the night? The watchman replies, Morning is coming, but also the night. If you would ask, then ask; and come back yet again."

In my looking at this scripture, I noticed a few things. First of all, the first sentence could be rendered: "An oracle concerning silence". Dumah means "silence". The time, just before the dawn, is the most silent time in any home, and in most cities, this is also the case.

So, in this time of silence, someone from Seir has a question, asked twice, concerning how much night remains. There is impatience in that request. The is importunancy. The request comes from a traitor, a backstabber from Seir. 2 Chronicles 20 records Jehoshaphat's complaint regarding those from Mt. Seir. God kept the Israelites from entering their land, or harming them at all, and they repaid that obedience and kindness by marching with the enemies of Israel. And so, the traitorious backstabbers want to know, how much night is left? Let's make it current, for today: the carnal, in name only Christians want to know just how long it is until Jesus returns. They want to live their hellish lifestyles and suppose they will repent just in time before Jesus arrives. They will be caught as a thief in the night.

How does the Spirit respond to these questions? Ahhh, the morning is coming, but also the night. Does that not remind us of our Lord, speaking in parables, to those outside the kingdom, who are described as ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding.

Do we not recall the elaborate treatise, presented in Watchmen-Prophets-Assembly a few months ago, relating to this scripture. It was alleged that the Spirit was changing watchmen and that morning watchmen were now taking their places and night watchmen had to change in terms of what they were looking for. Somehow, I don't think that is what the Spirit of the Lord is saying in this hour, through this scripture, at all.

I'll tell you, that as an aside to my receipt of this word from the Lord on Friday night, I "came up for air" to pay attention to my church service. My pastor was speaking from Matthew 11:25

"you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them unto babes."

You are going to have to have childlike eyes to see childlike signs to be a watchman at this time. Morning is coming, and also the night. Can a wise man tell you what that means? Can a prudent man do it? No! A little child can figure it out though.

I'm thinking now of something I read today by Brenda Davis. She likened the church to a thirteen year old Jewish boy, ready for his bar mitsvah. Let's hope he doesn't grow too old and wise. Let's pray this man/child church does not become too prudent or wise in it's own eyes, or else these parables will go right over his head. Let's pray he retains his childlike enthusiasm and passion for his master.

Yes, morning is coming! Jesus is coming, but perhaps not as the traitorious backstabbers from Mt. Seir might suppose. He is coming in his church, but He is not coming to raise up a bunch of theologians. He wants to raise up a church filled with passion for him; a church that will obey him excitedly, with a whole and pure heart. The night is coming with this morning. Yes, night is coming, when no man can work. We will need all the growth in Christ we can produce in order to stand in the night that is coming.

Look at Mark 3:14--"And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils."

Look at that first and main purpose: "that they should be with him". Intimate relationship and passion are involved here. We can't bypass this and go directly to the preaching and the healing and the devil casting. We must be with him.

If we are to be apostles of Jesus Christ, coming onto the stage in this final hour, we will not first be known as great preachers, healers or deliverers. People will say of us: they have been with HIM!
