Savage Wolves

Acts 20:38-31

"Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears." (NIV)

This morning, the LORD awakened me at 4:00 A.M. and spoke the words "savage wolves" to me. I was directed to do a few things, which need not be elaborated upon. The point, for which I make this post, is to inform you about a few things that this scripture makes clear.

1) Savage wolves are in your midst.
2) Savage wolves are of the level of elders and overseers
3) Savage wolves are men or women who started out well as brothers or sisters and met the qualifications for being an elder or overseer at one point in their walk
4) Savage wolves will not spare the flock...they do not consider the effect their words or actions will have upon weaker believers in the flock. They do not sit at the gate and protect the flock from other savage wolves, but will allow anything to happen to the flock so long as their needs, wants and desires are being met
5) Savage wolves distort the truth in an effort to gain followers.
6) True shepherds of God's flock warn you about and protect you from savage wolves.
7) True shepherds also keep watch over themselves, to examine themselves in order to detect any of these abominable tendencies that may creep into their ministries over time. They are continually asking the Lord to reveal their hidden faults to them.


LORD Jesus, have mercy upon us. Reveal to us where we fall short, and help us to watch over your flock as good shepherds. Keep us Lord from blindness and deafness. Strengthen us LORD against discouragement and laziness. In Jesus Name, Amen.
