What are we going to be doing in this spiritual wilderness of great tribulation where we find ourselves? Well, we had better learn how to pray!

Many years ago, when I was still a young man, the Lord said to me: "if you are not praying, you are playing". I have always tried to be an apostle of prayer, as I believe it is something that we are all called to excel at. There is no way to learn how to pray well without praying much. You can read books on the subject, such as E.M. Bounds "Complete Works On Prayer", in order to catch some anointing and ramp up your own prayer life, but there is no substitute to simply taking the time each day to do it. I suppose it is quite obvious to God that the one who does not pray much is saying to God that he or she does not need Him very much. The kingdom of God is taken by violent, forceful action. Little prayer fails to reach or touch the kingdom.

I suppose the saying "there are no atheists in foxholes" is going to find modern application soon, because much trouble, as it continues to mount, will force Christians to learn how to pray. There is a learning curve to prayer and experience matters. I would advise all believers to become skilled in prayer now before your lives depend on it.

My experience in leading prayer in the charismatic, full gospel churches, suggests that about 2% of church going believers ever got much involved in church sponsored group prayer. I do not know what their private prayer lives were like, but I can tell you that in a church of 1,000 people, I could only count on about 20 people to populate daily prayer meetings twice a day.

Dr. Zacharias T. Fomun taught us that the one who leads the church in prayer before the Lord is the true leader of the church, hence someone whom the church barely knows may be leading that congregation before the Lord in heaven. Perhaps one reason why our people do not pray is that our pastors make little time for it in their own lives.
