"For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore, mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth." Isaiah 63:4-6

The Lord quickened this scripture to me today. I am impressed by a few things in it.

First, I note that many of us have prophesied that the day of vengeance is nigh upon us. It is a timely word. Even if we have been given space in this country, it is still the prophetic time for these things to occur. They are happening throughout the world.

Next, I note that couched in between the Lord's fury, placed in the cleft of that rock, is the discussion about salvation in the day of vengeance. Note that the Lord will bring salvation to himself by his own arm. He has prophesied from of old that either he does all the work of salvation, or there is no salvation.

I note also that his fury is poured out in verse 6 upon those whose strength He will bring down on the earth.

This term, salvation, has a meaning much greater than that expressed by the attainment unto eternal life after we die. The Hebrews cried, "hoshiana, hoshiana", as Jesus was riding into Jerusalem on what we call palm Sunday. The meaning in English is "Save now, deliver now".

Therefore, salvation is inclusive of all that we obtain from Christ: every healing, deliverance, provision and yes, eternal life with God. None of this may be obtained by our own strength, but we must trust that God has provided these things "by his own arm".

How much more then should we look only to the one who is the provider of salvation: who brought salvation to himself by His own arm. Yes, there will be fury and terror in the day of vengeance, but to those who look to Jesus, there will be salvation, couched in the midst of that fury. There will be deliverance in the midst of the vengeance for those whose focus is on Jesus. Indeed, it is so, even now.
