"Sometimes, you can't see the forest for the trees."

Cliches are born many times because they express truth quite eloquently and succinctly. Sometimes, we have to back away from a situation to get a proper viewpoint.

In college, for example, I took a course on macroeconomics, then later, a course on microeconomics. In the study of reasoning, we can utilize deductive reasoning, or inductive reasoning to reach a conclusion about a matter.

Today, January 20th, is my birthday, and as you might have surmised, it matches up quite nicely with inauguration day every four years. I noted the contrast of the prayers of today, which were begun and ended with the invocation of the name JESUS. Both ministers did not shrink back by saying "in his name", or "in the Lord's name". No, both of them used the name of Jesus over international television. You can contrast this with the actions of the previous administration.

There are other contrasts that mark this day for me. My grandfather, George Stephens died on this day 20 years ago. His last name is the source of my first name and his last day coincided with my first day. Also, he was the last man of God in our family, until I became a believer, six years after his death.

Ah yes, contrasts! Sometimes we must back away to see the forest.

Can you back away from what we have experienced in the last few months? We have had several things competing for our attention, screaming at us, saying "look over here, just look over here." . First, it was the Sabbath day that was demanding our attention, then it was the Torah, then American believers were told that they must become more Jewish and answer the Ephraimite call, and eventually move to Israel. We were asked to argue over the futurist view vs. the preterist view, and now, we have ten people in the Earth who are each claiming to be the two witnesses. They cry: "look over here, look at me, listen to what I say or you'll have trouble."

And the contrast? Do you want to know what the contrast is? The contrast is the the Holy Spirit of God is crying louder than he ever has: "FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS, WORSHIP JESUS, PRAISE JESUS"!

All of these other people and things and spirits are crying out for attention and it has never been more important to avoid being distracted from absolute focus and concentration on Jesus of Nazareth.

Go back and look at the mission statement of this group: to do anything we can to fan the flame of passion for Jesus of Nazareth. Passion, absolute obsession, totally brainwashed devotion to Jesus of Nazareth. Yes brainwashed....washed totally with the water of the word of God and the blood of the lamb. Wash not only my mind Lord, but all of me. And the Lord's reply, you are clean already, by my blood.

Contrasts! Yes, the word is full of them. We see them when we compare the word of God with what we see around us. Contrasts!

"Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us" Hebrews 10:15

The Holy Ghost is God: He is perfect...a perfect witness. What does He do? How does he conduct himself in his job as a witness? Witnesses on Earth should hold the Holy Ghost up as a plumb line example for their walk.

"Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you." John 16:13-14

The Holy Spirit is the prototype witness, yet he never speaks of himself, or brings glory to himself, or tries to attract a group of followers or disciples to himself: He always points to Jesus and glorifies the name of Jesus.

I recall one time when Derek Prince was teaching on this subject and on how it related to a popular song chorus. The song is entitled "Glorify Thy Name", and Derek Prince said that the third verse of the song is unscriptural. The third verse says:

"Spirit, we love you, we worship and adore you, glorify thy name in all the earth."

Derek pointed out that the Holy Spirit will NEVER glorify his name. It is unscriptural for us to ask him to do so. I have never been able to sing that third verse since that day.

I tell you, by the Holy Spirit of God, that it has never been more important for you to focus on the person of Jesus Christ and upon His word.

Study His word to be approved. Study to get to know him better. Lift your hands to Jesus! Cry out to Him. Ask Him to give you strength and to rebuke the weariness and laziness that settles over us like a dragnet. Ask him to restore your first love for Him. Ask him to cause you to burn more brightly and to give you power to be witnesses. Ask him to give you passion for Jesus and for the brethren. Ask that your love may not grow cold as iniquity abounds. Ask for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit. Ask to be revived! And above all things, worship God, praise his Holy name with all your heart and soul and mind and strength. Praise the Lord! Don't take your eyes off of Him, even for one minute.
