John's Time |
|
INTRODUCTION: Revelation presents 2 witnesses......that
probably means something other than 2 men, prophesying or witnessing. The literal interpretations have been
disallowed as first preference. The thing was sent and SIGNIFIED to John.
SIGNIFIED: Webster has that as 1a MEAN, DENOTE, b: IMPLY 2: to show esp. b a
conventional token (as word, signal, or gesture) All I see from men today are people who are
speculating about what these things will literally mean. The number of
meanings and ideas you gather will only be limited by the number of
speculative books you read on this subject and I have read a great many of
them. |
Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God
gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to
pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: |
Signified |
|
1:1 John had written that the Revelation had
been signified to him... Rev 1:1 The
Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his
servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it
by his angel unto his servant John: I
take this to mean that I am probably not supposed to opt first for literally
interpreting anything in this book. |
Rev 1:2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of
the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. |
|
|
Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this
prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. |
|
1:3 This very book, for which the reader
receives a blessing in the reading thereof, is now one of the least read
bible books due to the confusion introduced by futurism. |
Rev 1:4 John to the seven churches which are in
Asia: Grace be unto
you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and
from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; |
|
Exo 3:14, Isa 11:2 |
|
Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead,
and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed
us from our sins in his own blood, |
|
Psalm 89:38, 1 Cor
15:21, Colossians 1:18, Heb 9:14, 1 Pet 1:19, 1 John 1:9, |
|
Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God
and his Father; to him be
glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. |
|
1 Peter 2:5, Rev 5:10 |
|
1:6 Many refer to us as beggars before
God. This scripture presents our true
condition before Him. |
Rev 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every
eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail
because of him. Even so, Amen. |
|
Isaiah 3:14, Dan
7:13-14, Zech 12:10, Mat 24:30, Jude 14 |
|
1:7 Speaking here of His one time, literal
physical return to which several New Testament scriptures refer. Technology, through satellites, first made
possible the global simultaneous viewing of a live event on July 24, 1969,
when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. |
Rev 1:8
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and
the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which
was, and which is to come, the Almighty. |
|
Rev 21:6, Rev 22:13 |
|
1:8 Alpha and Omega are the first and twenty
fourth letters of the Greek Alphabet….which is, and which was, and which is
to come--(Hebr Asher, Ayah, Ve HoVe, Ve Yavoh) |
Rev 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and
companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ,
was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the
testimony of Jesus Christ. |
|
Rev 2:9-10 |
|
Elliott, Horae, Vol I,
p 51 |
1:9 Here are first described the sufferings
and persecutions that will follow all who live Godly in Christ Jesus. The Emperor Domitian had banished John to
Patmos, forty miles offshore, Southwest of Ephesus in modern Turkey. |
Rev 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and
heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, |
|
1:10 These events began on Sunday as reckoned
by our modern calendars…..The Geneva Bible says that John was
"ravished" in the spirit: a
nomeclature that I especially like. |
Rev 1:11 Saying, I am
Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a
book, and send it unto the seven churches which are
in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira,
and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. |
The 7 Churches |
Rev 21:6, Rev 22:13,
Isa 41:4 Isa 44:6 |
|
Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake
with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; |
|
Rev 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man,
clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a
golden girdle. |
|
Rev 1:14 His head and his hairs were
white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; |
|
Dan 7:9 |
|
Rev 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if
they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. |
|
Rev 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars:
and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his
strength. |
|
Amos 5:8 |
|
Rev 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as
dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: |
|
Isa 41:4, Isa 44:6 |
|
Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and,
behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of
death. |
Resurrection |
Isa 43:1-13, Dan 4:34 |
|
Rev 1:19 Write the
things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which
shall be hereafter; |
|
Rev 4:1 |
|
Elliott, Horae, Vol I,
p 71 |
1:19 This verse clearly indicates that John
saw things that existed in his time and also things that would occur in the
future. |
Rev 1:20 The mystery of
the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden
candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the
seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches. |
The 7 Stars |
Amos 5:8 |
|
1:20 This verse seals the interesting link
between the "Seven Stars" and the Seven Churches. The constellation in the sky, The Pleiades,
is also known as "The Seven Stars", and its' star map bears a
shocking likeness to the layout of the Seven Churches on a map of Western
Asia Minor (Turkey) |
